Crimped wire is generally used for 10 mesh and coarser, Crimped weaves are produced in two separate operations, first the wires are crimped to suit the selected pattern and mesh count, then the "crimped" wires are woven together on the loom. Crimped wire screens have very accurate openings and are very tightly woven. The wires have very little movement resulting in less inter-wire abrasion due to wires rubbing against each other, less metal fatigue and minimum wire fracture. Crimped wire screens are generally preferred when accurate sizing is important and for vibrating screens where tightness is required. Below are some examples of crimped wire types :
